Our mission

The purpose of the mission work we do at Great Ayton Methodist Church is to try and follow this ‘Great Commission’ given to every follower of Jesus Christ. It is the responsibility of the whole church to ensure that we remain committed to this focus on mission. We structure this work into four main areas:

Church charity

Each year the church selects a particular charity or charities to support by raising funds from activities and events. Traditionally the church selects a more local charity one year, then a more internationally focused cause the next.

Church charity 2025 — the Al Amana Centre, Oman

For 2025 we're raising money to support the work of the Al Amana Centre in Oman. This foundation works to promote tolerance, peace and love between different faith communities. Given the current tensions across the world, the importance of this work cannot be overstated. In their own words:

“Al Amana Center is able to gather people from different religious experiences and create space for them to be engaged and transformed in their thinking, practices, understanding, and empathy. This impact is not limited to them personally, but is disseminated to their communities, institutions, and families.”

An inclusive church

In spring 2023, Great Ayton Methodist Church council agreed by a large majority to become registered to hold weddings of people of the same sex as well as those between a man and a woman.
